Nisku District South Fire Station now open!

The Nisku District South Fire Station – the first full-time, 24/7 station in Leduc County – is officially open! The $6.3 million station, which is located on Edmonton International Airport (YEG) lands and supports YEG, the Queen Elizabeth II Highway and Nisku Business Park, became operational in January and was celebrated today with a public, grand opening event.

The opening of the Nisku District South Fire Station marks an incredibly exciting day for Leduc County. For 20 years, we partnered with YEG to provide groundside fire services on airport lands and the surrounding region; however, significant growth and development signaled the need for our fire service to grow as well. The new station, which is the first in Leduc County to offer a full-time, 24/7 fire service, demonstrates our commitment to the safety of our business and industry partners and will serve the community for the next 40 years.

Tanni Doblanko, Mayor of Leduc County

Safety and security are core values at YEG. We are proud to support emergency services in the region and know they are fundamental pillars of a safe and healthy community. Leduc County is a great partner for us, and we’re glad to work with them to continue to prioritize safety in our region.

Myron Keehn, President & CEO, Edmonton International Airport (YEG)

The new station features four double depth bays and a living space for five firefighters and two emergency medical services (EMS) providers, with room to expand the space in the future.

In addition to fire services provided in Nisku and at YEG, Leduc County Fire Services manages and operates the fire service in the New Sarepta, Calmar, Thorsby and Warburg fire districts through a paid on-call model. The County also supports fire services in the Leduc and Millet fire districts through cost-sharing partnerships.
